I highly recommend Andrea Shaw. She is warm, attentive, sensitive, and psychologically astute. She is a rare combination of being easy to talk with while also being able to deliver candid, accurate feedback in a way that makes it safe for people to hear and absorb. I have watched how she can stay near her client's experience so that each feels truly accompanied. One more beautiful aspect of her work is that she lives and practices the skills and attitudes that she works on with clients. She is committed to a lifetime of growth and development, personally and professionally.

FAQs
Payment Information
Payment is expected at the time of each session or by personal arrangement. Please contact me to discuss the fee.
Insurance
I am not in-network with any insurance plans; however, my services are eligible for reimbursement by many insurance companies. I am happy to provide a detailed monthly superbill that contains all the information necessary. You can submit this as an out-of-network claim to your insurance company, health savings account, or flexible spending plan for reimbursement. To learn about your out-of-network benefits, you can call the insurance company and inquire what the coverage would be for you.
Cancellation Policy
I understand that life is busy and unexpected things happen. With more than 24 hours’ notice, I am happy to try to accommodate you with a new time. However, if you miss your appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, the full session fee will be charged.
How do I get started?
The best ways – You can fill out the short form on the Contact page, send an email to andrea@andreashawpsychotherapy.com or text 919-395-3312 to schedule a free initial conversation.
When we do speak, I will want to learn more about your concerns. You can ask any questions, I will tell you how I think I can help, and we can each get a sense of whether we’d make a good, collaborative team to meet your needs.
Psychotherapy sessions typically occur on a weekly basis though frequency will be determined for you individually.
I see clients in-person in Chapel Hill, NC. I also have a lot of experience providing psychotherapy via telehealth, meaning on Zoom or the phone, for persons anywhere in North Carolina.
Does online therapy really work?
I have been asked whether therapy can work well if we’re not in the same room seeing each other directly. It’s a great intuitive question. My answer has long been, yes! I pay the same focused attention when looking at you on the screen as if you were here in the room with me. Soon you will likely find that our communication becomes as easy and fulfilling as if we were physically together, because we have entered what we might call a shared dedicated space.
There is an assortment of advantages for working via telehealth:
- No commute! You’re very busy. Working online will allow you to save time, which is especially helpful if you have a long distance to travel. Plus, schedule permitting, it will allow you to return to your day ‘without much disruption’.
- You’re already in a comfortable spot! Either in your home or another private space, you get to choose your locale.
- No germs! If you don’t feel that great, but you’re well-enough to have the session, it’d be all-around better to stay home. Conversely, if you’d prefer not to be in direct contact for your own reasons, this is a great option.
- Anywhere in North Carolina is AOK! As long as we’re both in-state, you are not limited to therapists in your local area. All you need is an internet connection and a tablet, computer, or phone. It couldn’t be easier.
